Feast of the Holy Translators
On Sunday, Oct. 18th, 2009, the pupils of St. Illuminator’s Day School attended the Holy Badarak at St. Illuminator’s Cathedral, and celebrated the Feast of the Holy Translator’s Sourp Sahag Hayrabed, Mesrob Mashdots, and their fellow translaters with a program in Pashalian Hall.
The School Principal Ms. Christine Reiglehoff, welcomed the guests and invited the children to start the program. They sang and recited songs and poems, read about our history which glorifies the invention of the Armenian alphabet and the translation of the Holy Bible to Armenian (known as Takouhi Tarkmanoutyants) in the 5th century A.D. which is also known as the Armenian Golden Age.
The celebration was attended by Fr. Mesrob Lakissian, pastor, Board of Trustees and Chairlady Lalig Vartanian, School Board Chairman Dr. Herand Markarian, parishioners, and parents. All were happy to see the school children present such a meaningful program. Fr. Mesrob congratulated the students, the parents, and the attendees, and the dedicated school staff: Ms. Christine Reiglehoff, Ms. Zemi Markarian, Ms. Mary Yaralian, Ms. Tamar Lakissian, for their work.
Those present also enjoyed a bookfair, at which they bought children books, souvenirs, CDs and more.
St. Illuminator’s Day School thanks Fr. Mesrob Lakissian and the Board of Trustees, the PTO, and Yeretsgin Eugene Lakissian in organizing this wonderful event.

Nursery & Kindergarten pupils visited the Armenian Old Age Home in Flushing in January, under the direction of Fr. Mesrob Lakissian and teachers Marie Yaralian, Tamar Lakissian and assistant Gayane Manoukian. Pupils sang, recited poems, and wished the residents a Merry Christmas.
On Sunday, February 15, students in Grades 1-4, performed Vartanants songs and recitations under the direction of Mrs. Zemroukhd Markarian. Nursery and Kindergarten pupils presented recitations and songs and dance under the direction of Tamar Lakissian. Fr. Mesrob Lakissian and Dr. Herand Markarian spoke and thanked the children for their performance and congratulated them for keeping their Christian faith and the courage of Sts. Vartanants alive. The Cathedral’s Ladies Guild served the ‘’Herissa” (Traditional Food) which was prepared by Yeretsgin Vartouhi Der Kaloustian and Mrs. Araxi Andonian.
School 2009 Year-end Hantes
St. Illuminator’s Armenian Day School held its annual year-end Hantes/graduation on Thursday evening, May 28, on the Independence Day of 1st Armenian Republic, in the Armenian Center. Pupils in N-K performed song and recitations under the direction of Miss Tamar Lakissian (Nursery/Pre-K teacher) and Mrs. Marie Yaralian (Kindergarten teacher). Students in grades 1-4 performed Armenian recitations and Armenian/English songs under the direction of Mrs. Zmroukhd Markarian, Mrs Hasmik Meikenedjian was the pianist for the evening. Stage decorations were prepared by Mrs. Ani Nercessian(Art teacher), Ms. Christine Reiglehoff, principal spoke about the successful school year. Mr. Mardo Anastasian spoke on behalf of the School Board and the Rev. Fr. Mesrob Lakissian and Very Rev. Vaghinag Meloian also spoke to parents and friends. Fr. Moushegh Der Kaloustian gave the benediction. St. Illuminators congratulates its kindergarten graduates: Alex, Mikayel & Nicholas Mkryan, Salpy Ketchelian, Narine Samuelian, Hayk Shahvertyan and Emmy Veselinov.Inter-School Competition
On Saturday, May 9th, St. Illuminator’s Armenian Day School hosted the annual Armenian inter-school competition sponsored by the Hamazkayin at school in Woodside. Students from Armenian day and Saturday schools participated. Pupils from St. Illuminator’s, won prizes in the spelling and vocabulary categories. Mrs. Zmroukhd Markarian, prepared our students for the competition. We congratulate all of the participants.32nd Anniversary Gala Dinner-Dance
On Sunday, May 3, St. Illumonator’s Armenian Day School held its thirty-second annual dinner dance at the Armenian Center in Woodside. Varouj Vartanian and his band performed for about 150 attendees.


Prelate visited St. Illuminator’s Day School
On Tuesday, April 21, St. Illuminator’s Armenian Day School was honored to welcome His Eminence, Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan, Prelate.Father Mesrob Lakissian, Pastor of St. Illuminator’s Cathedral and Mr. Mardo Anastasian, chairman of the Church Board, attended the reception for the Prelate.
Christine Reiglehoff, Principal, welcomed surpazan hayr and spoke briefly about the school, which is recognized by New York State, and of the school’s alumni-many of whom have gone into honors programs after graduating from St. Illuminator’s and are now enjoying successful careers.
Ms. Reiglehoff also thanked Fr. Mesrob and Mr. Anastasian, and she expressed special appreciation to the School Board and its Chairman, Dr. Herand Markarian, the school’s devoted faculty, and administrator, Mr. Sarkis Apelian, for their genuine sacrifice and tireless efforts.
The school children sang songs and presented recitations under the director of Zemroukhd Markarian, Tamar Lakissian and Marie Yaralian and assistant Gayane Manoukian. The Prelate spoke warmly to the children.
His Eminence, special visitors, students were very pleased with the visit.
